FMARD in its effort to promote the potentials of some crops under its ATA introduced Sesame seed value chain among others. The
value chain began the implementation of its activities in 2013
involving 10 states in the federation based on comparative advantage in
Sesame production as a pilot phase. The States include Kogi, Benue,
Yobe, Cross River, Taraba, Nassarawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Gombe and FCT.
Significant success was recorded during the year which brought about
expansion of activities to five more states in 2014 namely Katsina,
Jigawa, Plateau, Niger and Kebbi, making a total of fifteen states in
the federation.
The
activities of the value chain are conducted in partnership with
National Sesame Seed Council of Nigeria (NSSCN), National Agricultural
Extension Research and Liaison Services (NAERLS), West African Cotton
Company Limited (WACOT) and National Cereal Research Institute(NCRI)
Baddegi.
